Captions describe the content of a
proceeding and help others quickly identify
the proceeding they are concerned with.
Captions are required by Colorado law, as specified by rule 1202(b)(I) and (II), 4 C.C.R. 723-1...
(b) Titles and captions.
(I) The title of an application or petition proceeding shall contain the name of the applicant or
petitioner, describe the authority or Order being sought from the Commission with
sufficient specificity to distinguish the application or petition from other proceedings, and
briefly describe the subject matter of the proceeding. If the application or petition relates
to a previous proceeding, the title of the application or petition shall identify the previous
proceeding by docket number.
(II) Every pleading shall contain a caption identifying the proceeding by title, docket number,
and the heading Before the Public Utilities Commission of the State of Colorado, and
stating the title of the pleading. Every pleading shall include a clear and concise
statement of the authority relied upon, the relief sought, and the name, including trade
name, if any, of the party or the party's attorney.
