Continuing Competency General Information
Q. Where can I find detailed instructions for Continuing Competency?
The portfolio or manual for your profession is your step-by-step guide to Continuing Competency. Go to www.colorado.gov/dora/boards_programs and select your profession. Next, select Continuing Competency from the lower right side of the screen, underneath "Resources."
On the Continuing Competency page that will open, there is another link titled "Resources" with "Documents and Forms" or "Continuing Competency Portfolios and Forms" listed beneath it. Click on the link and find the portfolio or manual for your profession.
Q. Who should I contact for additional information?
Please feel free to contact us at dora_dpo_continuedcompetency@state.co.us should you have additional questions.
Q. I have completed everything. How do I renew my license?
Once you have completed the 2013 CPD, you will receive a green light on the home screen of your CPD Portal account indicating you have completed the 2013 CPD requirements and are ready for 2013 renewal.
At this point, you can log off the portal in the upper, right-hand corner of the screen and click the "Professions and Occupation Online Services" link located inside the red box of the portal logon screen.
Continuing Competency Deem Status
Q. I think I accidentally marked Deem Status. What should I do?
The portal will now allow you to update your own Deem Status attestation. Simply log into your account, click on "2013 CPD" (or whichever renewal cycle you wish to claim Deem Status) and select the pencil button to the left of Deem Status to answer the attestation appropriately for your situation.
Q. I recently found out that I do qualify for Deem Status but I already started my Learning Plan. What should I do?
Individuals who qualify for Deem Status have two options: 1) they can attest to their Deem Status or 2) they can log their hours on the Learning Plan as any other licensee would do.
The hours you complete even in a Deem Status program will still count in the traditional CPD program. This is particularly a good option for individuals who think they may secure a new position with a different, non-Deem Status program during the course of the renewal cycle. Changing employment to a non-Deem Status program may disqualify a licensee from claiming Deem Status for that renewal cycle.
The portal will now allow you to update your own Deem Status attestation. Simply log into your account, click on "2013 CPD" and select the pencil button to the left of Deem Status to answer the attestation appropriately for your situation.
Continuing Competency Creating a Learning Plan
Q. Where can I find more information about Professional Development Activities, documentation requirements, or general information about the CPD program?
Complete instructions for the CPD program can be found at http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite?c=Page&childpagename=DORA-Reg%2FDORALayout&cid=1251632507719&pagename=CBONWrapper.
Along the menu bar on the left side of that page, select "Professional Resources including Portfolios and Workbooks" to access the appropriate documents for your
profession(s).
Q. How do I create a learning plan?
On your home page, there will be learning plan links noting that the plan is "In Progress" or "Required". Click on that link, then click the "Create Plan" button.
Q. Can I create more than one plan per license?
No, you may only maintain one Learning Plan per license.
Q. Is the system available 24 hours per day?
Yes, except for weekly maintenance periods, the system is available every day.
Q. Can I select more than one "role" for my Learning Plan?
No, you may only select one "role" per Learning Plan. The "role" is for informational purposes. You may select a role that corresponds to your current practice, or you may select a role that you are interested in moving into.
Q. When can I start my Activities and begin accruing Professional Development Hours?
You may begin accruing hours on July 1, 2011 in preparation for renewal in 2013.
Q. When can I start my Activities and begin accruing Professional Development Hours?
You may begin accruing hours on July 1, 2011 in preparation for renewal in 2013.
Q. What is the difference between "Actual" dates and "Planned" dates?
The Learning Plan form allows you to plan our your activities in advance. You may establish a planned date to start and end an activity. The date by which you actually start and end that activity may be different. For this reason, you can confirm the completion of your activity by entering the "Actual" start and end dates.
Q. What is the different between "Total" and "Applied" hours?
"Total Hours" reflects all the professional development you plan and/or complete. "Applied Hours" reflect the number of hours that qualify for and fulfill the CPD program requirement each renewal cycle.
Once you have confirmed you have completed an activity by entering the "Actual" dates and attesting that you have retained documentation, the hours in the "Total Hours" column will be "applied" to your 40 hour requirement. The Learning Plan will make this calculation using the 20 hour maximum rule which can be accrued in a single activity. Therefore, it is possible to have completed more than 20 hours in an activity, but only 20 will be applied toward the 40 hour requirement each renewal cycle.
Q. Can my Professional Development Hours carry from one renewal cycle to another?
Yes! Licensees may "roll" a maximum of 5 hours from one renewal cycle to another if they are accrued within the 6 months immediately preceding licensure expiration. Marriage and Family Therapists may roll a maximum of 5 hours accrued within the 3 months immediately preceding licensure expiration.
Q. When can I create a plan?
Licensees may create one Learning Plan version per renewal period. For this reason, version dates correspond to renewal date. The current version of the Learning Plan runs from 2011 to 2013.
New Learning Plans for new renewal periods may be created up to 60 days prior to the next renewal period.
Q. Who can should I contact if I have questions?
Questions regarding the Continuing Professional Development Program can be referred to the Division's Continuing Competency Program at 303-894-2363 or dora_dpo_continuedcompetency@state.co.us.
