Changes to the Exam Application Process
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Effective immediately, applicants for original license by examination who plan to sit for the NAVLE in Colorado must first apply to the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (NBVME) prior to submitting a licensure application to the State of Colorado. Applicants are no longer required to wait for approval from the State Board prior to registering and sitting for the exam.
The exam application can be obtained online at www.nbvme.org or by contacting the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (NBVME) at 701-224-0435. The testing deadlines can also be found on their website.
Colorado keeps its licensure applications on file for one year. Thus, we recommend that you do not submit an application for original license until you have taken and passed the NAVLE examination in order to avoid paying a duplicate application fee.
If you sat for the NAVLE examination in another state and wish to apply for an original Colorado license by score transfer, please submit an Application for Original License by Examination or Score Transfer, which can be downloaded from the Veterinarians licensing web page.
