Academic Veterinarian
New Legislation Effective in 2007:
Senate Bill 187 - Modifications to the Colorado Veterinary Practice Act. This legislation, effective July 1, 2007, enacts the following requirements:
- That a veterinarian employed at a school of veterinary medicine in Colorado and who practices veterinary medicine in the course of his or her employment responsibilities obtain an academic veterinarian license by January 1, 2008.
- This legislation is not applicable to faculty members who already hold an active veterinary medicine license in Colorado.
- That veterinarians make records available to law enforcement and certain state officials.
- That veterinarians report suspected animal cruelty to local law enforcement of the Bureau of Animal Protection.
