Colorado Passes Law to Continue the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators

On May 4, 2009, Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. signed Senate Bill 09-169 into law, effective July 1, 2009. This legislation was the result of the Sunset Review of the Board and continues the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators until July 1, 2018. Most of the changes to the statute are technical in nature; however one substantive change is to reduce the membership of the Board from 8 to 5 members in order to alleviate some of the costs associated with supporting the functions of the Board. There were also some important changes to the sections pertaining to qualifications for admission to examination and the administrator-in-training program. Changes to those sections will result in further amendments to Board Rules and a rulemaking hearing on those proposed rules will be held on July 29, 2009. A draft of the proposed rules is available for review on the Board’s website here.
