Renewal Information
Grace Period for Licenses
Licensees and unlicensed psychotherapists shall have a 60-day grace period after the expiration of his or her license or database listing to renew such license/listing without the imposition of a disciplinary sanction for practicing on a lapsed or expired license/listing (for purposes of licensure status, the terms "lapsed" and "expired" have the same meaning). A licensee or unlicensed psychotherapist who does not renew his or her license/listing within the 60-day grace period shall be treated as having a lapsed or expired license/listing and shall be ineligible to practice until such a license/listing is reinstated.
Renewal Fees for Mental Health Professions
Uniform fees for all mental health therapists were repealed on July 1, 2004. Current renewal fees represent the estimated cost of regulating each individual Board/program for mental health therapists from 7/1/05 through 6/30/07. Fees are calculated by taking the actual cost of regulation for the past five years and projecting the average for the next two years, which may increase/decrease fees based on actual expenditures. Renewal fees are the primary source of revenue the Boards/Programs use to calculate projected costs.
If a person who was previously listed in the Grievance Board Database has since become licensed in one of the other mental health professions, they do not need to renew their database listing. The listing will simply expire if no renewal payment is made.
Other Information
Renewal schedule. All licenses, certifications, and registrations currently expire on June 30 in odd-numbered years. If you successfully renew during the renewal period ending June 30, 2007, you will be issued a license expiring August 31, 2009. All licenses will then expire on August 31 of odd-numbered years. Renewal forms are mailed to the last known address on file approximately six (6) weeks prior to the expiration date.
Fees. By law, the Boards may not pro-rate renewal fees. Renewals submitted after the expiration date must be accompanied by a $15 delinquency fee.
