Welcome to the Continuing Professional Development Program

Online Portal

The CPD Portal is now available!

The Continuing Professional Development Portal is now available.  You can now begin the process of completing your Professional Survey or Rubric (for Social Workers) and drafting your Learning Plan by clicking on the button on the left side of this page labeled “CPD Portal.”  Mental health licensees/certificants with Continuing Competency requirements will need to create a user ID and password on their first visit to the CPD Portal.  The status bar will direct you through each step of the CPD program.  However, a detailed Portal Guide with screen shots and a Sample Learning Plan can be accessed by clicking the buttons on the left.

  • Create a secure user account to manage your Continuing Professional Development;
  • Access the Reflective Practice tools such as the Professional Practice Survey or the Professional Practice Rubric;
  • Draft, update and submit your Learning Plan.

Continuing Professional Development Requirements

House Bill 09-1086 enacts continuing professional development requirements to certain mental health professional who apply to renew, reinstate or reactivate their license or certificate on or after January 1, 2011.  The affected license and certificate types are:

  • Licensed Social Workers
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers
  • Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
  • Licensed Addiction Counselors
  • Certified Addiction Counselors Levels II and III

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program is in the implementation process at this time. Licensees do not need to complete the full program requirements to renew in 2011.  There are other requirements which include:

  • Create a secure User Account on the CPD Portal
  • Participate in Reflective Practice by completing the Professional Practice Survey or Professional Practice Rubric.  Access these tools from your user account.
  • Draft a personal Learning Plan.  Your Learning Plan can be completed on your user account.  Your Plan is changeable up to the day you renew your license in 2013.

Please download the CPD Portfolio for your profession to read about the above requirements in further detail.

Tips

Do not start accruing Continuing Education Units. You do not need to start accruing Professional Development Hours (PDH) until the renewal cycle that runs from 2011 – 2013.  You may start accruing PDH on or after July 1, 2011

The Boards and Director are using an implementation strategy for the CPD Program that introduces new requirements in phases.  You do not need to accrue any Professional Development Hours in order to renew a license or certificate in 2011.  There are other requirements for renewal in 2011. These include participating in Reflective Practice and drafting a Learning Plan.  Both of these items can be completed online.

Look for the CPD Portal to launch sometime in April 2011.

The proposed model for Continuing Professional Development uses a variety of Professional Development Activities.  Options to fulfill the program requirements are not limited to traditional continuing education.

Certain license and certificate types are not to participate in the CPD program.  These types are:

  • Certified Addiction Counselors Level I
  • Psychologists
  • Registered Psychotherapists
