Board of Medical Examiners

Statutes, Rules and Policies

Rules || Policies

Statutes are proposed and made law by the State Legislature and are used in the regulation of physicians, physician assistants and other health care providers regulated by the Board.

The Colorado Medical Practice Act (MPA) is that part of the Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS) which allows the Board to regulate physicians and physician assistants. It gives the Board the authority to license and discipline physicians and physician assistants within the parameters set forth in the statute, and to adopt rules (which have the force of law) relating to the regulation of physicians and physician assistants and the practice of medicine and physician assistant practice in Colorado. Additionally, the Board has adopted policies which provide guidance to licensees and Board staff.
