Notice to Municipal Clerks
Dear Municipal Clerk:
Beginning on April 1, 2009 Massage Therapist will be regulated by the Department of Regulatory Agencies, Division of Registrations per Senate Bill 08-219. The Massage Therapy Practice Act can be found in the Colorado Revised Statutes 12-35.5-101.
If your jurisdiction currently regulates Massage Therapists this new legislation will impact that practice. According to 12-35.5-118 C.R.S., "No city, county, city and county, or other political subdivision of this State shall enact or enforce any local ordinance that regulates the practice or profession of massage therapy. This will go into effect on and after April 1, 2009.
The Department of Regulatory Agencies will be providing informational session over the course of the next couple of months. Please check the website for dates, times and locations if your are interested in attending. The purpose of these sessions is to provide professionals impacted by new legislation (i.e. Massage Therapists and Occupational Therapists) with information regarding the Department and the new registration requirements for those professions.
