Licensing
The following information is provided as a convenience to those applying to qualify for licensure as a Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Colorado by examination or endorsement (also commonly referred to as comity or reciprocity). These are questions that are regularly asked of staff and are intended to be helpful but are not all-inclusive. All applicants are required to follow all application instructions and to comply with the directions found in the application forms.
Question: If I can easily request my transcripts from my university online, do I still need to send in the Transcript Request Form?
Answer: No. The Transcript Request Form is only provided as a convenient tool for applicants to use if they wish.
Question: There is no box to check if I would like to apply to the state to take the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.)? What do I do?
Answer: To take the examination, apply directly to CLARB at www.clarb.org . Once you have successfully completed the L.A.R.E. and completed the required experience to become licensed in Colorado pursuant to Board Rule 4.1.1.9, you can apply to the Colorado State Board for licensure.
Question: I do not meet CLARB’s requirements to take the L.A.R.E. and feel that I am qualified. What are my options?
Answer: You will need to submit a completed licensing application with all accompanying forms, the non-refundable application fee, and a letter to the State Board explaining your special circumstances. The Board will review your submission at a regularly scheduled Board meeting and notify you in writing of its decision within 7 to 10 days. Your application will remain on file in the Office of Licensing and the fees you submitted will be applied towards licensure as a landscape architect.
Question: Can we supply references from architects clients or other consultants and project owners?
Answer: Pursuant to Board Rule 4.1.1.7(c), for periods of self-employment, applicants shall obtain verifications from colleagues, partners, employees, clients, and/or other appropriate individuals who have knowledge and are capable of appropriately assessing the applicant’s caliber of work.
