Bail Bond Insurer Requirements
Effective April 16, 2003, an insurer writing bail bonds in Colorado, must request a specific bail bond line of authority from the Division of Insurance prior to writing any bail bond business in the State of Colorado. This line was previously included under fidelity and surety.
All companies which were writing bail when this determination was made have been re-issued amended Certificates to reflect this bail bond line if they elected to continue. Companies desiring to add this line of authority to their Certificate in the future must proceed with the UCAA Corporate Amendment process.
To review a list of current insurers authorized to write bail, see: www.dora.state.co.us/insurance. Select Companies and Agents Search. In the Company search select "bail bonds" as the criteria for type of insurance authorized to sell.
Any insurer who has not requested such line of authority is prohibited from writing bail in Colorado.
