Consumer Insurance Council

About the Council
The Colorado Division of Insurance established the Consumer Insurance Council in 2001. A cross-section of Coloradans was selected to represent the consumer perspective concerning insurance issues. The mission of the Council is to discuss and share information on insurance issues. The Council provides insights from the consumers' perspective on regulations and initiatives developed by the Division of Insurance.

Council members volunteer their time and commit to a one- or two-year term. The Council meets between four and eight times each year. For more information, contact Deputy Commissioner Peg Brown at 303-894-7501.

In 2008, the Consumer Insurance Council was codified in statute, 10-1-133,

What Council Members say about their experience:
DOI is a valuable resource for Colorado citizens. The Consumer Council members have the opportunity to introduce the DOI resources to their communities. It is an honor to serve as a Council member of an agency that provides consumers with advice and protection in times of need.
- Betty Lehman

It is a privilege to be on the Council.  I have learned so much and in so many areas.  The discussions are wide ranging and demonstrate how insurance issues affect us at most levels of our lives.  As a result of sitting on the council, I have actually been able to share useful information and point people in the right direction for help.  - Jean Nofles

I became a charter member of the Consumer Insurance Council, because, as a small business owner, I was very invested in health care for my employees.  I’ve been able to bring the employer voice to the table, and have learned about every kind of insurance imaginable, how legislation happens, and what issues face insurance companies, brokers and consumers.  I’ve participated in task forces to build uniform applications and insurance cards, testified at house conference committees and can direct my employees and all those I interact with to the proper resources regarding any insurance issues. - Lynn Leader
