License Renewal Information. All electrician licenses expire on September 30 every three years. Renewal postcards are mailed to the last known address on file approximately six (6) weeks prior to the expiration date.

Definitions:
  • Original License by Examination. You are applying to take an examination in order to qualify for licensure in Colorado.
    • Reapplication for Original License. You previously have been approved for the exam but have not taken the exam in more than one (1) year.
  • Original License by Endorsement. You hold an active license in another state and wish to apply for licensure in Colorado.
    • Reciprocity. You hold a journeyman electrician license/certificate or higher classification from a participating state that is current, active, and in good standing. (Visit this web page for a list of participating states and further qualifications.)
  • Renew. You currently hold a Colorado license and are in a renewal period.
  • Reinstate. Your Colorado license has lapsed or expired and you wish to reinstate the license.
    (For purposes of licensure status, the terms "lapsed" and "expired" have the same meaning.)
