Peer Assistance
The Dentist
Peer Health Assistance Program is available to all licensed
Colorado dentists who have physical, emotional, psychological, or
substance abuse problems.
- Program services
provided include evaluation, assessment and referral, treatment
monitoring, support groups and prevention education programs.
- There is
no fee for evaluation, assessment and referral or treatment monitoring.
These program services are funded for Colorado dentists and their
families through a portion of license fees. Fees for treatment,
therapy or drug services are the responsibility of the dentist.
- The Colorado
Board of Dental Examiners contracts with Peer Assistance Services,
Inc. to provide services.
- Anyone may
make a referral to Peer Assistance Services.
The program
is confidential and anonymity can be assured unless:
- The dentist
is referred to the program by the Colorado Board of Dental Examiners
- There has
been a violation of the Dental Practice Act
- The dentist
is noncompliant with the Dentist Rehabilitation Contract
Other program
support services offered:
- Educational
presentations regarding problem recognition and prevention
- Assistance
in identifying problems
- Support for
the affected dentist and family members
- Technical
assistance to approved and trained dentists to serve appropriately
as Practice Monitors
- Practice
