Board of Chiropractic Examiners

Renewal Information

All Chiropractic licenses expire on July 31 of odd-numbered years. Renewal applications are mailed to the address of record approximately six weeks prior to the expiration date.

Please verify the address of record through ALISON (Automated Licensure Information System Online). You can change your contact information online by using Registrations Online Services.

There is a 60-day renewal grace period following the license expiration date. If your renewal is not received by September 30 during a renewal year, your license must be reinstated.

Continuing Education Requirements
All chiropractors are required to annually attain 15 hours of continuing education. The Board does not give any approval for CE hours, either to the individual chiropractor or to the sponsor.
CRS 12-33-116 and Rule 10 explain the continuing education requirements for chiropractors in the State of Colorado. The Board relies on the integrity of each individual chiropractor to comply with the Statute and Board Rules.

Audit
At the completion of renewal, the Board performs an audit of licensees to ascertain compliance with the continuing education requirements. A random sample of licensees are selected and receive a letter from the Board, notifying them that they are audit subjects and that full proof of compliance must be submitted. The letter will notify audit participants of all materials that must be submitted.

Since all licensees are required to maintain their own continuing education records, audit participants will be asked to supply the Board with documentation regarding their CE hours. The documentation should contain information regarding the date and hours of attendance, synopsis of the course content and the qualifications of the instructor. Audit notices will be mailed out approximately the first week of August.

Social Security Numbers
The Board is required by law to record social security numbers (SSN) in the database. This number is used for enforcement of child support legislation and is not a public record.

Information Provided to the Public
Please note that most of the information about you on file with the Board is a public record. The social security number IS NOT a public record. Your address IS a public record and must be provided upon inquiry.

Consequences of Not Renewing
It is unlawful to practice with an expired license and may result in disciplinary action against your license.

Reinstatement
There is a 60-day renewal grace period following the license expiration date. If your renewal is not received by September 30 during a renewal period, your license must be reinstated. This requires a separate reinstatement application be completed and the payment of a reinstatement fee. Please note that you cannot legally practice until you have an active license. Rule 2 has further information regarding reinstatement.

Inactive License Status
Rule 1 and CRS 12-33-114 both contain information regarding statutory licensure renewal requirements.

You must provide information during the renewal process.
