Becoming a Consultant to the Chiropractic Board
BOARD CONSULTANT REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold an active Colorado chiropractic license
- Must be free of major disciplinary action taken by the Board
- Must have five (5) years active practice experience
- Must have
postgraduate training in areas of specialization.

Formal training for consultants is offered on a yearly basis. If you are approved as a consultant for the Board, after training for the year has been held, you will be required to attend training at the next scheduled session.
Your willingness to be a consultant on cases for the Colorado State Board of Chiropractic Examiners is appreciated.
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR BOARD CONSULTANTS
If you are asked to consult, it is essential that you examine all of the materials sent to you and attempt to answer questions that will assist the Board in its evaluation of the facts.
Depending on the types of cases, you may be asked to answer questions similar to the following:
- Were the procedures performed by the treating chiropractor appropriate choices for treatment of the condition?
- Were the number of visits or treatments the chiropractor prescribed for the patient appropriate and necessary?
- Does the chiropractor’s treatment records of the patient meet the standard of care expected of chiropractors within the State of Colorado?
- Was the treatment that the chiropractor provided the patient within the standard of care expected of chiropractors within the State of Colorado? If you found anything in his/her treatment that you considered below the standard of care, please set forth in a specific manner the practice(s) which did not meet the standard of care. In addition, state clearly why you considered the practice(s) below the standard of care.
- To what extent could the problems of the patient been a result of or exacerbated by the chiropractor’s treatment?
- Should the chiropractor have consulted with a specialist and/or referred the patient to another practitioner at any time before or during treatment.
After you have examined all of the material, please incorporate your findings into a written report. The report must contain a definitive statement relative to the standard of care in the case; i.e. did the chiropractor meet the standard of care expected of chiropractors in Colorado, yes or no.
When formulating your written report, please bear in mind that a copy of it may be made available to the respondent or his counsel should the case be referred for a formal hearing.
After your report is completed, the Chiropractic Board will review the case and your report and make a decision as to what action, if any will be taken. If it is determined that a formal hearing should be held in the case, you may possibly be required to give testimony at the proceeding in accordance with your opinions and conclusions.
If you need additional information or material to complete your review, please contact the investigator assigned to the case. When your review is concluded, please return all of the material to the investigator. If necessary, arrangements can be made for someone to come to your office and pick up your report and the materials.
