State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors

Student Application and Student Exam Information Notice
for the April 14, 2012, FE Exam

READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS
BEFORE PREPARING YOUR STUDENT APPLICATION

This web page is for STUDENTS only. If you are not a student as outlined below, please obtain your license application forms from the Licensee / Applicant Services section of this website.

Eligible Students:
Students planning to take the FE exam, through their school, must comply with the following Board rules: Rule 4.7.1.1 Board-Approved Engineering Degree, Rule 4.7.1.2 Board-Approved Engineering Technology Degree, Rule 4.1.1.6 Student Application for Fundamentals of Engineering and/or Fundamentals of Surveying Exam and Rule 4.3.4 Student Fundamentals of Engineering and Fundamentals of Surveying Examination Applications. C.R.S. 12-5-112(2)(b)(II) references senior status in a board-approved engineering or engineering technology curriculum of four or more years. The Board interprets this provision to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to include senior status in a curriculum at a college or university within the State of Colorado that is accredited by one of the commissions of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. In addition to ABET/EAC programs, this rule permits Colorado schools with an ABET/TAC program to allow its seniors to take the FE exam through their school.

Graduate Students: If you are in a graduate engineering program and wish to apply for the FE exam, please obtain your license application forms from the Licensee / Applicant Services section of the AES Board website. It is necessary that you apply through the Colorado Board office and receive written approval from the Board to take the FE exam. Do not complete this student application - you are not eligible to take this exam with the eligible students as outlined above. If you take the exam without prior Board approval, your examination will be voided.

Application and Instructions

The following are the Student FE Exam Instructions and application form.

The Student FE Exam application must be typed. Handwritten applications will be rejected. To help you accomplish this, we have developed a Microsoft Word fill-in form (you must have Word on your computer in order to use this form).

After you locate the document you need, follow these steps:

  • On your Internet browser's standard menu bar, click on "File, Save As" and save the document to your computer.

  • To move through fields, use the "TAB" key to move forward or "SHIFT, TAB" to move backward.

  • For a checkbox, click within the box to add an "X" mark or simply hit the "X" key. Follow the same steps to remove an "X" if you made an error.

  • Most fields are restricted in length. If you run out of room while typing, try to edit or abbreviate your words.

  • Remember to save your work frequently!

You may also print a blank form for completion by typewriter.

Turn the completed application form into your school's engineering department by its deadline date.

Print your Student Application in BLACK ink on WHITE paper.
