Appraiser Education

Qualifying Education

Qualifying real estate appraisal courses must be at least 15 hours long including an examination The course and the provider must be approved by the Board. The Board does not endorse any particular provider or course of study. It is the licensees responsibility to contact providers directly for current approved offerings. Qualifying education may be used to satisfy continuing education requirements. Click here for Board Rules regarding qualifying education.


Continuing Education

All Colorado appraisers must complete 42 hours of continuation education in the three year period prior to the expiration of their licence. This must include at least 7 hours of USPAP update taken every other year and taught by an AQB certified Instructor. Licensees must maintain certificates of completion for a minimum of four years. Do not send certificates of completion to the Division unless requested to do so. Continuing education can not be used to satisfy qualifying education requirements for licensure. Registered Appraiser Exam Changes

The State of Colorado Exam for real estate appraisers has changed. Incorporated into the test are questions relating to the Board of Real Estate Appraisers’ board rules. It’s important that appraisal students and schools offering the pre-licensing education review and understand the following rules:

Proposed Changes to Appraiser Education

Proposed Revisions to the Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria (Criteria) have been adopted by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB). The Criteria, which were adopted at the December 2011 meeting of the AQB, will be effective on January 1, 2015.
