License Upgrades

If your current license is set to expire at the end of this year and you are seeking a license upgrade, please make sure you allow sufficient time for the upgrade to be processed. This may take four (4) months, and it is possible that the application may not be approved. If your application is received within several weeks of the end of the year, you will need to renew your current license if you plan to continue to practice, otherwise your current license may expire prior to any upgrade decision.

Appraisal Management Companies

The Dodd Frank Act, Sec. 1124 et seq, empowers the Appraisal Subcommittee to monitor State supervision of appraisal management companies (AMCs). All States will be required to have AMC regulation in place by no later than December 27, 2013. This deadline may be extended under certain circumstances for an additional 12-months. The Colorado legislature will be asked in due course to consider such regulation. Further updates will be available on this website from time to time.

Reciprocity with other states

Colorado may accept a person licensed or certified in another state at the equivalent Colorado level if the other states requirements are consistent with those set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation. Colorado does not accept temporary, trainee, apprentice, or transitional licenses for reciprocity at any level. Reciprocity applicants must complete a special application, pay the fees and submit a current license history letter or certificate of good standing from the other state. Examination, proof of education and review of experience are not required as these matters were previously handled by the other state. Click here for applications.
