Provisional Licensure for Mental Health Professionals
Employed in Residential Child Care Facilities

The Colorado legislature passed Senate Bill 11-187, which reversed the July 1, 2011 repeal of provisional licensure.  The provisional license is available to marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, psychologists and social workers who have education appropriate to their field and who work under supervision in a residential child care facility.  Detailed information about licensure can be found in the application for provisional licensure. To download and review applications, visit the Licensee / Applicant Services web page. Be sure you select the proper application for your profession.
Information on the history of the restructuring of residential treatment centers and further defining residential child care facilities is noted in House Bill 06-1395.  The complete bill is available at www.dora.state.co.us/mental-health/HB1395.pdf.
