Resources for the Jurisprudence Examination
The Jurisprudence Examination is open book. When taking the exam you will need, at a minimum:

  • a copy of the Mental Health statute;
  • the Board Rules for your discipline; and
  • any additional resources available on the website such as the FAQs or your discipline's professional association (see Related Links for a partial listing).

You may also wish to review books such as "Confronting Malpractice" by Austin, et.al.,"Documenting Psychotherapy" by Moline, et.al., or any general reference on legal and ethical principles in psychotherapy.

Workshop Information
The requirement for completion of a jurisprudence workshop has been eliminated.
Applicants are now required to take a written mail-in jurisprudence examination. Addiction Counselors are required by the Department of Human Services to complete an ethics course and take the jurisprudence examination.
