The Bail Bond Advisory Committee was created in 2004, pursuant to §12-7-104.5, C.R.S.. The Advisory Committee members are not compensated for their time. The Advisory Committee consists of 7 representatives:
- one law enforcement representative appointed for a 4 year term
- one cash bail bonding agent initially appointed for a 2 year term, and 4 years thereafter
- one professional cash bail bonding agent appointed for a 4 year term,
- three surety bail bonding agents, two of which are initially appointed for a 2 year term and 4 years thereafter and the remaining one surety agent appointed for a 4 year term
- One representative of the surety companies, appointed for a 4 year term.
The duties of the Advisory Committee are set forth in Section 12-7-104.5 (1)(a) & (b), C.R.S. which requires the members to render advisory decisions to the Division in matters involving complaints and help to ensure that bail bonding agents properly report and pay premium tax. The Committee shall also review all rules regarding the regulation of bail bonding agents that are proposed by the Commissioner and make recommendations to the Commissioner regarding the implementation of such rules.
The Advisory Committee meetings are held at the Division of Insurance Office. All meetings are open to the public.
