ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE INFORMATION
An individual interested in becoming an electrical apprentice should speak to their employer (a registered electrical contractor) to inquire about their specific apprentice training. Once you begin working with an electrical contractor as an apprentice, please request an apprentice registration form or contact this office within 30 days of your date of hire and we will mail you a registration form (address is given below or email our office at registrations@dora.state.co.us with your mailing address). Registration is a requirement to validate electrical experience for licensure.

APPRENTICE REGISTRATION
Colorado law requires that the electrical contractor notify this office and register all apprentices within thirty days of their date of employment as an apprentice. The law also requires that the electrical contractor notify this office within thirty days of the termination of each apprentice.

FYI: Electrical Contractors can manage their electrical apprentice registration needs online by using Registrations Online Services.

According to section 12-23-110.5(3) (a), C.R.S., upon employing an electrical apprentice to work at the trade, the electrical contractor, within thirty days after such initial employment, shall register such apprentice with the board. The employer shall also notify the board within thirty days after the termination of such employment.

Please be advised that in accordance with the Colorado Electrical Law, any individual employed in the electrical trade is considered an apprentice and must be registered until such time as the individual has actually obtained a Colorado electrician's license.

According to section 12-23-105 (1), C.R.S., no person shall engage in or work at the business, trade, or calling of a journeyman electrician, master electrician, or residential wireman in this state until he has received a license from the division of registrations upon written notice from the board or the program administrator, acting as the agent thereof, or a temporary permit from the board, the program administrator, or his agent.

The electrical contractor is responsible for compliance with the law regarding licensing and registration of their employees.

According to section 12-23-118 (1), C.R.S., the board may deny, suspend, revoke, or refuse to renew any license or registration issued or applied for under the provisions of this article, may place a licensee or registrant on probation, or may issue a citation to a licensee, registrant, or applicant for licensure for any of the following reasons:
