Board of Chiropractic Examiners

Acupuncture Requirements

Chiropractors may practice acupuncture only if authorized by the Chiropractic Board to do so. For Acupuncture authorization through the Chiropractic Board, you must submit an Acupuncture Authority Application.

Authorization may be obtained by complying with Board Rule 17 and Board Policies 30-17 and 30-18:

To comply with these requirements you must take and pass a nationally recognized acupuncture examination.  This is not a final examination from your acupuncture course. The approved exams are administered through:

National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) - http://www.nbce.org/written/desc-acu.html

National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) - http://www.nccaom.org/index.html

You must also certify compliance with any rules and regulations promulgated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment regarding acupuncture. Contact the department at (303) 692-2000 for more information.

Contact the Office of Acupuncture Licensure for information about acupuncture licensure.
