Licensing Information
I
have never had a license.
If you have never held a license to practice as a barber, cosmetologist,
esthetician, hairstylist or manicurist, you must apply for a
license by examination.
Exam applicants must apply and schedule their examinations with Pearson VUE. You may access the Candidate Handbook and reservation information online via Pearson VUE or call 1-800-274-4132 for further information.
I
used to have a Colorado license, but my license expired.
I you have ever held a Colorado license to practice as a barber,
cosmetologist, esthetician, hairstylist or manicurist, you must
apply for a license by reinstatement.
I
am licensed in another state.
If you currently hold an active license in good standing to
practice as a barber, cosmetologist, esthetician, hairstylist
or manicurist in another state or territory, you may apply for
licensure by endorsement. You will need to:
- Complete
the Out-of-State (Endorsement)
Application.

- Request
that verification of licensure be sent directly to our office
from all states in which you have been licensed to practice.
- California Licensees: Please be advised that verification of licensure from California may take up to three (3) months to process. Please allow sufficient time for verification requests. Your application cannot be processed without official verification.
Once we receive all of the above information, your application will be reviewed. We will immediately notify you when the review is complete.
If you meet the requirements for endorsement, you will be issued a license to practice in Colorado.
If you do not meet the requirements, you will be required to take all or part of the Colorado written and practical examinations.

am licensed in another country.
If you currently hold an active license in good standing
to practice as a barber, cosmetologist, esthetician, hairstylist
or manicurist in another country, you may apply for licensure
by endorsement. You will need to:
- Complete
the Foreign-Trained or Foreign-Licensed
Application.

- Request that verification of licensure be sent directly to our office from all jurisdictions in which you have been licensed to practice.
- Have your training and experience reviewed by an approved credentialing agency to determine whether you meet the requirements for Colorado licensure, and have a final report sent directly to our office.
Once we receive all of the above information, your application will be reviewed. We will immediately notify you when the review is complete.
If you meet the requirements for endorsement, you will be issued a license to practice in Colorado.
If you do not meet the requirements, you will be required to take all or part of the Colorado written and practical examinations.

- Address/Name Change Form - Use this form if you need to change your name, change your address, or order a duplicate license.*available via FaxBack
- Complaint Form - To file a complaint against a barber, esthetician, cosmetologist, hairstylist, manicurist or salon or barbershop.
- Felony Conviction Form - If you have ever been convicted of a felony, pled guilty or nolo contendere to a felony, or accepted a deferred judgment or deferred prosecution to a felony charge, you must complete this form.
- SSN Affidavit Form - Affidavit for foreign candidates without a Social Security Number or non-immigrants in the United States on student visas.
